This was my first trip ever to a destination wedding in Turkey, and I must say it will be difficult to top! Due to a partial non-disclosure agreement I can’t say too much about the wedding and the people in particular, but I do want to talk a bit about the images and the event in general. The entire wedding weekend took place in Bodrum and utilized the best combination of venues available in the area. From a welcome party aboard the vintage luxury cruising yacht The Halas 71, to the wedding day at the esteemed Villa Macakizi, to the final day of coastal cocktails and brunch at the Macakizi Hotel, it was certainly a weekend of luxury and celebration.
The couple really wanted to focus on enjoying themselves and not be restricted to the confines of a strict schedule. So unlike most of my weddings that come along with a pretty refined timeline from the planner, I literally didn’t know at exactly what time the next thing would be happening. I simply knew the couple wanted the feeling of the weekend to be captured with little direction and guidance so I was able to rely on my background in photojournalism and capture each day as it developed. Initially I was a bit nervous about this as it was a relatively high-profile event, but I also looked forward to the spontaneity of things. I must say I am elated with the results and how the lack of a firm schedule allowed for such wonderful natural moments to be captured. I was also able to shoot a fair amount of film due to the amount to time we had for each event, and the abundant sunshine over the weekend. This is something I genuinely enjoy adding to wedding coverage when time and light allows, and I think the images speak for themselves.
